The Czech Republic has recently unveiled an ambitious initiative to bolster its skilled labor market - a new portal called "Work in Czechia" aimed at attracting one million foreign tech talents by 2025. This strategic move aligns with the European Institute for Innovation and Technology's (EIT) Deep Tech Talent Initiative, which seeks to upskill one million individuals in deep tech fields across Europe.

The new portal, available on Czechia.EU, provides a comprehensive guide for international professionals, covering all aspects of life and work in the Czech Republic. This includes detailed information on visa and immigration procedures, as well as practical tips for cultural engagement and integration.
According to Jan Michal, the head of the CzechInvest agency, the platform offers numerous opportunities, particularly in the technology sector. "The website provides foreign talents with a comprehensive overview of life and employment in our country," Michal stated. "They can find all the necessary information on it – from details on visas and immigration to tips on cultural activities".
Diverse Labor Market and Startup Ecosystem
The Czech Republic's labor market is diverse, offering international workers avenues for career advancement and personal growth across a range of sectors. The country boasts a robust network of both local and multinational companies, as well as a thriving startup ecosystem.

Addressing Labor Shortages
Like other European Union (EU) nations, the Czech Republic has been facing labor shortages, prompting employers to actively recruit workers from abroad. An OECD survey reveals that these shortages have led Czech employers to seek international talent.

The number of foreign workers in Czechia saw an increase of nearly 30,700 last year, totaling over 823,900 in December 2023 - a figure that is 2.5 times higher than the end of 2015. Data from the Czech Statistical Office (CSU) shows that in the first three quarters of 2023, there were 4.23 million workers registered in the country, with just under 409,800 coming from other EU countries.
Aligning with the EU's Tech Talent Initiative
The Czech Republic's new portal is part of a broader effort to address the tech talent gap across Europe. In 2022, the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT) launched the Deep Tech Talent Initiative, aiming to upskill one million individuals in deep tech fields by 2025.
To achieve this objective, EIT has been providing courses focused on developing and expanding new or existing deep tech skills. The initiative has also been actively recruiting foreign talent outside the European Union (EU).
